I've loved the music of Scots singer-songwriter Karine Polwart for many years (which reminds me that I need to write her yet again, inviting her to be a guest on my show). But on the eve of the current president's first inauguration she performed a song about him, his family and his heritage that has an indicting power stronger than any district attorney's. The song was a warning. A warning we didn't heed strongly enough. A warning that proclaims that his ignorance, hate and power will not withstand time and tide. But a warning that damage will be done that can't be undone. BTW, Karine has just released an amazing album with Mary Chapin Carpenter and Julie Fowlis called Looking For the Thread.
A balancing is yet to come,
although by then you may be gone
and leave a desert to your sons and daughters.
Still, these waters, they will rise,
the North Sea haar will cover your eyes,
despite your appetite for lies.
and your disregard for truth.
